SCALP HAIR TRANSPLANT TECHNIQUES

Various Types Of Transplantation Hair Grafts

follicular unit transplant (FUT)

Earlier the surgical restoration of hair is done by extraction of follicular units by strip harvesting technique called follicular unit transplant (FUT). The goal is to cover the larger portion of recipient bald area that a patient will get a full head of hair. This procedure is done by detaching grafts from the back and sides of the head and implanting the same in bald area.

The technique involves the strip harvesting from the back and sides of the scalp. Which involves the simple incision with Bp blades under local anaesthesia, the incision is done in such a manner that a longitudinal strip is excised contains a number of follicular units in a single. Suture followed by the advanced closure technique, the Trichophytic closure.

The strip is sent to the process of dissection where expert technicians dissect every single graft under the higher magnification of microscopes. Grafts holding a small cluster of follicles are removed from the donor area. Finally, the dissected follicular unit grafts are carefully implanted into the balding areas of the recipient scalp. The FUT hair transplant specifically targets the safe donor zone of the scalp to harvest the hair grafts, ensuring permanent results, as the transplanted follicles are designed to remain permanent.

With traditional Strip surgery, patients are left with a permanent linear scar at the back of the head which can be difficult to disguise and unsightly if the scar has enlarged due to poor skin elasticity. However, the procedure of hair transplant is applied to restore hair naturally and fulfill the cosmetic need of a person with a full head of hair.

These are some common phases can experience after the hair transplant surgery (not side effect) is described below:

1. Pain
2. Swelling
3. Redness
4. Itching
All the above phases are very common and one can easily get the solutions with the recommended medications mandatory as a post-care follow-ups!

Shedding of Transplanted Hair: Is it a Side Effect?

It’s completely normal for transplanted hair to shed 2-3 weeks after the hair transplant procedure. This shedding is actually a sign of the hair’s natural regrowth process. Typically, it takes around 10-12 months to achieve fuller, visibly accepted cosmetic results. Hair shedding is a common and temporary occurrence that should not be considered a side effect or cause for concern.

This process usually begins around one week after the surgery and can last up to five to six weeks. Known as “shock loss,” this is a temporary phase where existing hair sheds as the transplanted follicles adjust to their new location. During the procedure, the grafts temporarily lose their blood supply, which causes them to shed. However, this is a normal part of the process and resolves as the new hair begins to regrow following the restoration procedure.

THE ADVANTAGES OF FUE TECHNIQUE ARE:
● Totally natural maximum growth rate gives undetectable results.
● No suture, no scalpels, No permanent linear scarring.
● It is a pain free, non-invasive technique.
● Bleeding during is very less
● Very less chance infections
● This procedure offers permanent results, the implanted hair will never fall.

follicular unit extraction (FUE)

In recent days a common technique done for hair transplant is FUE (follicular unit extraction). In this technique we won’t use any surgical blade, suturing and patients are not left with a permanent linear scar at the back of the head which can be difficult to disguise and unsightly if the scar has enlarged due to poor skin elasticity.

To overcome these problems which we are observing in FUT, New advanced procedure, known as FUE (follicular unit extraction method). In this method follicular units are harvesting from the donor area (occipital area) with the help of manual or motorized machines by using small punches which varies size of 0.6 – 1.0.

For our Indian most commonly used punch size is 0.9 depends upon size of the follicle. The extracted follicles are safely separated into storage media at the time of transplantation. The extracted follicles are transplanted into recipient area (Bald area) with the one movement implantation method, and the combination of high-powered microscope; we offer the correct angulations, direction and depth to each individual graft so the results are natural. When it comes to cost, the FUE hair transplant procedure is generally more expensive than the FUT procedure.

DFI (Direct Follicle Implant) Technique

Advantages of DFI:
1. 95% graft survival rate
2. Immediate implantation reduces graft damage
3. Minimal bleeding
4. No sutures, no linear scars
5. 100% absence of swelling due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure
6. At Root Land, we guarantee successful outcomes and maximum patient satisfaction with the DFI technique.

DFI is an advanced modification of the common FUE procedure, where follicular unit grafts are immediately implanted as soon as they are harvested. The procedure begins with the administration of local anesthesia, followed by the extraction of grafts one by one from the donor area at the back of the head using a motorized, precision punch. Simultaneously, the extracted grafts are directly implanted into the bald areas using an implanter, employing a one-movement implantation method. This allows the surgeon to maintain full control over the depth, angle, and direction of each individual graft, ensuring a completely natural result.

The survival rate of the extracted grafts is influenced by factors such as hydration, cold temperature, minimal mechanical handling, and maintaining aseptic conditions. These factors are optimized when the time the grafts spend outside the body is minimized.
The DFI technique is known for producing the most natural-looking results, with one of the highest viability and success rates in the hair transplant industry. By utilizing DFI, patients can achieve high-density results, depending on the quality of their donor area.

Once the grafts are implanted, the scalp may initially appear to have small hair sprouts. These hairs will shed due to shock loss but will regrow permanently, with the full results becoming visible around the fourth month. Since DFI is a non-surgical, painless procedure, complications post-surgery are virtually nonexistent.

BIO-Enhanced FUE

BIO-FUE is an advanced hair transplantation technique that enhances the traditional FUE procedure. This method aims to achieve optimal hair restoration by incorporating bio-stimulation of the transplanted hair follicles.

Suitable for both men and women, BIO-FUE provides a faster and healthier hair restoration process. Performed by specially trained surgeons, BIO-FUE stimulates the hair follicles with regenerative cells, accelerating healing and promoting denser hair growth.

BIO-Stimulated FUE is an upgraded version of the standard FUE procedure, designed to improve the results of both the transplant and the condition of the existing hair. During the procedure, a blood sample is taken from the patient and processed in a centrifuge to separate the regenerative cells. After the grafts are extracted, these regenerative cells are used as a storage medium for the grafts, boosting their survival rate and resistance. The follicles are then immersed in a growth factor-rich culture medium to minimize cell death and maximize the survival of the transplanted hair.

These regenerative cells are injected directly into both the recipient and donor areas to speed up healing, improve the quality and density of existing hair, and promote better growth of transplanted follicles. The procedure uses a one-movement implantation method, combined with a high-powered microscope, to ensure that each graft is implanted at the correct angle, direction, and depth, resulting in a completely natural appearance.

Advantages of BIO-Enhanced FUE:

● Achieves greater hair density.
● Improves hair growth rate and provides better coverage.
● Regenerative cells repair damaged hair follicles, stimulating new growth.
● Accelerates the healing process across the scalp post-surgery.
● Delivers superior results with enhanced aesthetic outcomes.

I intentionally waited for about a year and half to write this review. Mainly because so everyone can see the photos attached and make the judgement of their own! All thanks to the Rootland team. I was told I need about 4000 grafts, 3-6 sessions of PRP and after care. Glad I listen to Dr. Stevenson hence the results proven. I will be planning to visit India soon and consult Dr if I should get anymore PRP or further preventive care.
