Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a popular cosmetic procedure that involves removing excess skin, muscle, and fat from the eyelids to improve their appearance. It can also correct functional problems with the eyelids, such as drooping eyelids that obstruct vision. At Rootland, our experienced plastic surgeons use the latest techniques to ensure natural-looking results and minimal scarring.

Blepharoplasty is a versatile procedure that can address a variety of cosmetic concerns related to the eyelids. These may include:
• Excess skin and wrinkles on the upper eyelids,
• Puffy bags under the eyes,
• Drooping lower eyelids that reveal the white of the eye below the iris,
• Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes (crow’s feet),
• Hooded or sagging eyelids that make you look tired or older.
During your consultation, our maxillofacial surgeon will discuss your concerns and evaluate your eyelids to determine the best approach for your specific case. The procedure may involve removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your goals.
In some cases, the muscles that control eyelid movement may also be adjusted ( tosis):
Blepharoplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia, which numbs the area around the eyes while allowing you to remain awake during the procedure. In some cases, general anesthesia may be used. Most patients can return home the same day, although you may need someone to drive you home if you have received sedation.
Recovery time varies based on the procedure’s extent, but most patients can return to normal activities within one to two weeks. During the first few days after surgery, you may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the eyes. Our team will provide detailed instructions for your recovery to minimize these risks and ensure a smooth healing process.
While blepharoplasty is generally considered safe, like any surgical procedure, it does carry some risks. These may include bleeding, infection, scarring, and changes in vision. Our team will take every precaution to minimize these risks and ensure a safe, successful outcome.
